Is time real? There is a Buddhist saying, "Things are not what they seem, nor are they otherwise." Time certainly seems real in this world of clocks, schedules and deadlines and it does have a practical function. It seems like life is moving forward, toward the ever-elusive future, and away from the clinging shadows of the past. But, in fact, our sense of "time" is something that occurs only in our own minds.
When we are waiting impatiently, time seems so slow, and when we are enjoying something immensely, it speeds by! It is only our impatience, dread, anticipation, and desire that create a sense of time and rob us of the present moment, which is the only true reality—and the only “time” we ever really have.
