There is work to be done in this world and the mind with all its thoughts is an effective and formidable machine. The mind loves to work and play and run wild and free but it does not like silence. It is its nature to be active and silence is a kind of death.
Our mind is much like a wild, untrained horse that resists the saddle of our control by kicking and bucking and running wild. But when we have persuaded the mind to enter into an alliance with our will it will gradually accept the saddle and the rider. Then we can direct the mind, even into stillness, instead of being dragged mercilessly through life by desires and fears, anxiety and regret.
The mind is a gift, given to us to be used as an instrument. It is up to us to take lessons and learn how to play.
