Pure meditation has been likened to the continuous flow of oil being poured from a vessel into a lamp. It might also be compared to a river flowing into a serene and motionless sea. The "river" is our consciousness when it is gathered together into a single focused stream and the "ocean" is the spiritual effulgence at the center of our being. It is that light that emanates from the still place deep within.
In the Bible it says, "Let thine eye be single and thy whole body shall be filled with Light." In deep meditation the "mind's eye" is single, being completely focused, and absorbed in, the object of meditation. Finally, all thought becomes absorbed in stillness and all that is left is the radiance of consciousness—without thought.
