How often in life our hearts cry out to something in the universe. And how often do we feel our cry goes unanswered, just a voice alone in the wilderness of life's journey? And yet, it is in our nature to reach out for something to answer the mysteries of our being, and to lift us from the suffering that is a part of every human life.
It is ours to continue our calling, our seeking, until we hear that Voice that speaks silently in the depths of stillness. Perhaps there are times when we hear no answer because we need to listen more closely. Even our thoughts may drown out what the Quakers speak of as “the still small Voice.”
