There is great humor in our human folly! Why is it that the mind is so diligent about detecting and reminding us of our failures, and even more diligent in recognizing and magnifying the flaws in others? It is because the mind is engaged in a constant process of attempting to create a "self." It is continually scrutinizing and measuring our own self-worth against that of others around us.
The cosmic joke of course, is that there is no self in all the things our ego claims as it's own. Does our "self" consist of our memories, accomplishments, thoughts, fears, desires, physical and mental attributes? To witness and recognize the folly of the ego is to laugh in delight, as the cage door swings open and we fly free!
