If you have ever climbed a mountain or even a tall steep hill you have had some experience of "climbing fatigue." When you begin your climb your legs are strong and there is a spring in your step. As you continue on your journey and get higher along the path, your legs begin to feel like lead and each step requires more effort. At higher altitudes you may have to stop after each step and rest.
Similarly, in meditation we must find our own pace and take a "breather" when we need it. It takes perseverance and determination to reach the summit. Along the way we reach “view points” where we can gaze into the vast and quiet space before us. As we are filled with a strange peace and joy, the labor of the journey is forgotten. We find renewed strength to continue to the highest peak, where we relax into the hightest bliss.
