It is to our great disadvantage that we are not taught the value of silence and a means to experience it in our own minds. Particularly in the west, it is constant mental activity that is encouraged and emphasized as the pathway to success. Yet, it is in silence that we are renewed, refreshed and rejuvenated. It is in silence that inspiration springs forth. This does not discount the importance of vigorous activity.
Silence and stillness are the counterpart to action and activity. We are not aware of the weight we carry in our minds until we approach silence. It is as if we have been running all our life and are finally allowed to sit down beside the path and rest. We will return to action with new vitality and a debt of gratitude for the renewal through silence!
