There is nothing glamorous about dwelling in the present moment or stilling our thoughts. At some point however it may become very appealing to experience, even very briefly, the calm safety of the present moment. It may come as a startling revelation when we realize that almost all of our suffering takes place in our minds. In fact, most of our suffering is actually created by our minds!
Learning to find refuge in the "now" does not eliminate our struggles, but it helps us gather strength and the clarity of peace to better deal with them. A warm cabin on a wilderness trail may not bring a great storm to an end, but does provide needed shelter and opportunity for rest. The storm of our life may even subside while we take a break from past and future!
