In Eastern philosophy there is something beyond light and darkness. Something that is neither light nor dark, nor both, nor neither, but beyond both and beyond all the pairs of opposites in this realm of "manifestation."
On this dual plane of existence, darkness exists when light is shut out or blocked. It can only exist in the absence of light. It is the same within our own being. We only dwell in darkness so long as we close our windows to the Light.
