To see the humor in our own folly is a refreshing release from the oppression of the wily ego! Yet, it is so difficult to step back from ourselves and observe without judgment when we are in the midst of an embarrassing or aggravating situation. Sometimes the best we can do in these circumstances is to say to ourselves "I know I will laugh at this—one day."
Henry David Thoreau said, "Every person is a divinity in disguise, a god playing the fool."
Eventually we may come to a place where able to "see" in the midst of an argument, that we are not defending truth, but defending our ego from being proved wrong. In a flash our attachment to our opinions may fall away and leave us laughing at our foolish behavior!
