Shakespeare said "All the world is a stage." The ancient spiritual teachings from India have a wonderful concept and description of the whole universe as a Divine play. Have you ever felt that you were connected to, and playing a part in something larger than your own life?
According to Vedanta, a philosophy drawn from the Vedas and the Upanishads, our sense of "I" is really a barrier to the oneness of our true being. It is like the fragile walls of a bubble on the sea. We are on the inside and we think it is the whole world. We long to be whole but don't realize that to be whole means the bubble must break.
The things we identify with and call "me" are like a costume an actor would wear. The trick is to realize it is a costume before the end of the play, to wake up and remember who we really are.
