There is seldom any benefit in dwelling in the past. It exists only in the mind and generally only serves to keep us from living in the present moment. However some memories can be beneficial and might open our heart or provide guidance for something we need to do.
Some special memories might even help us move into a higher state of consciousness. We may remember an experience that was spiritually uplifting or transcendent and from it draw strength and inspiration. Memories like these bring with them their own atmosphere, like a fragrance that lingers where roses have been.
